The suspension system is responsible for the comfort, stability and safety of any vehicle. Its job is to absorb road irregularities and ensure reliable contact between the tires and the road surface. Suspension problems often develop gradually, but if they are not diagnosed and fixed in time, they can lead to serious consequences for the entire car. So let's see how to recognize that something in the suspension is not working properly.

Most common signs of a damaged suspension – when you need diagnostics?
The main signs that we at OnDrive recommend you watch for are:
- unusual noise while driving – if you hear knocking, tapping or squeaking when turning, this may indicate loose or worn components – a joint, bushing or even shock absorbers;
- vibrations in the steering wheel or under the seat – light vibrations are normal under certain conditions, but if they increase with speed or appear when cornering, something is probably wrong with the suspension and it is advisable to get a diagnostic check;
- steering wobble – unstable steering behavior over bumps or during braking can be a sign of damaged shock absorbers or a deformed suspension part and the need for diagnostics;
- lack of stability when braking – if you feel instability when braking, this indicates uneven load distribution and lack of tire balance;
- the car „sags“ more than usual – if on visual inspection you notice that one side of the car is lower, the cause may be shock absorbers that have lost their elasticity or broken springs.

How to diagnose the problem yourself?
Before seeking a technical inspection and diagnostics at a service, you can perform some basic checks:

- Visual inspection
Check the tires – if they are worn unevenly, there may be a problem with the suspension or alignment. Inspect the components under the vehicle for signs of fluid around the shock absorbers or torn boots and bushings.
- Pressing on the body
Press down with your hand on the hood above one of the wheels and observe how the body moves. If the car continues to bounce more than once or twice, the shock absorber probably needs replacing.
We can also recommend the following test to perform while driving – focus on how it feels when turning, braking and going over potholes. If the car behaves unstably, leans excessively or responds with delay, this is a clear indicator that diagnostics and part replacement are needed.
Do not ignore the signs of a suspension problem, as they can lead to reduced comfort, increased fuel consumption and even danger on the road. Be observant and do not skip timely diagnostics to ensure a longer life for your car and a more pleasant driving experience.
